Before I really begin, I owe an apology to henry jr, who went out on a limb and posted a comment only to have me ignore this site completely for about a week and a half. Sorry, man.
Those of you who either actually read this site (or maybe just scrolled down a bit) have undoubtedly heard about The Boy being a runner. Today is the day of the first Cross Country meet for The Boy. Actually, I might go with the name “Running Brave” from now on. Thanks, henry jr.! I can’t make it there because it’s at 2:45 and I work 45 minutes away from where it’s happening. I’ll make maybe one of them this season. Christy said to me today, “It’s kind of tough to have to rearrange your day for something that takes eight minutes.” And she’s right. They run one mile and they’re done. But that’s not the point.
The point is that I want the world to root for the kid. In one eek (granted, it was a week in which he went from not really running in his life to running every day) he took 40 seconds off his mile time. He could run one faster than me right now, and I run occasionally. So root the kid on from your office from somewhere around 2:45 to 3:30. He’ll be running somewhere in there. And if I know him, he’ll be nervous, but fine.
